Step by step guide to reach your dream university/college in the US

Step #1: Prepare for GRE

Getting started with your GRE preparation is the first crucial step as GRE scores are required by
almost all Masters Programme.
GRE preparation at Renaissance is a 2.5 to 3 months programme. All the topics of Quantitative
Ability and Verbal Ability are covered in-depth. Relevant practice material and Mock tests would
thoroughly prepare you for the best score on the day of GRE. Since GRE is conducted on almost all
365 days in a year, booking the date of GRE at the right time and with the right level of preparation
requires help of a mentor.

Step #2: Take IELTS / TOEFL

It’s mandatory to appear for a language proficiency test before joining a course in foreign university.
It takes normally 15 to 30 days to prepare, depending upon your command over English language.
The results are available after 8 to 10 days. Expert trainers at Renaissance, through personalized
attention, help students to get outstanding results in these tests, since these results not only boost
your chances of admissions but also help you further in RA / TA / GA etc.

Step # 3: Shortlist courses & Universities

This is probably the most nerve-wracking part you’ll face, but you’ve just completed half the battle.
Shortlisting courses of your choice, figuring out best universities offering these courses, verifying the
batch profile and acceptance ratio, checking out fees, accommodation facilities etc. are an integral
part of this phase. You need at least one month. A dedicated consultancy team at Renaissance, with
its thorough research over years, can make your job very easy.

Step # 4: Prepare your SOP & LOR, transcripts and other documents

This is the most important and most time-consuming portion of your admission application, which is,
1. Statement of Purpose (SOP)
2. Letter of Recommendation (LORs)
3. Transcripts (to be obtained from your existing university)
4. Personal Statement / Diversity statement (if asked by the prospective university)
5. Resume

Your SOP is roughly a 1000 word-essay, which should reflect your reason for pursuing the particular
course in the university you are applying. SOP should be cogent and well-structured as it plays a
crucial role in your selection process.

It should reflect your passion for the course and talk about your qualifications, your aspirations as
well as your expectations from the university.

LORs are a testament to your skills made by a third person. These letters are scrutinized by
admission officers to see if you would be a good fit for their university and how you can add value to
them. This phase requires lot of brainstorming, reviewing and editing before you finalize the draft of
the essays.

Step #5: Applying to universities

Many universities have different rounds of applications. The deadlines for applying to most of the
top level universities would be November/December. It is necessary that you have your application
ready at least three weeks before the deadline. This helps you stay ahead of the pack, especially with
the first come-first serve admission procedures. Many universities will have PRIORITY DEADLINES.
Renaissance consultancy team keeps a checklist of the same and helps you get scholarships and fee
waivers wherever possible.

Conclusion
One needs to understand the application timelines first. Accordingly, plan the steps given above.
